The FDOT gave the “OK” to start construction on Phase II of the SunRail commuter-rail line here in Central Florida.

Phase II will include five stations: Volusia County (DeLand), Orange County (Meadow Woods Station) and three within Osceola County, one of which being in Poinciana near the intersection of U.S. 17-92 and Poinciana Boulevard. This will include extending the rail line from the Sand Lake Road area in southern Orange County to Poinciana, Florida. The estimate for this extension is $187 million and was awarded to Middlesex-Herzog II of Littleton, Massachusetts.

Passenger-rail service on the Phase II extension is expected to begin in February 2018.

A groundbreaking ceremony will be held in Kissimee and is expected to be later this month.
